If you're looking for tips on how to choose kids' cell phones, of course you want to make this decision carefully.  Kids are not always careful with things like cell phones which means you want something durable.  And they're not always careful about their calling plans, so you want to be sure you don't pay hundreds of dollars extra every month because someone went over their plan!

The best way to choose kids' cell phones is to consider why you're giving your child a cell phone.  Is it just an emergency phone to be used sporadically?  Or are you giving them something they can use as they see fit?  This will mean you'll need to consider how many minutes are included in the plan.  An emergency or secondary phone may need just a few hundred minutes every month but for a phone the kids will use constantly, you may want unlimited talk and text!

You also don't want to get something too delicate for your kids.  Sometimes you can find something cheaper when it comes to cell phones but sometimes cheaper in price means cheaper in manufacture.  Getting something more durable will mean you don't need to replace it over and over again.  A cell phone should be considered an investment and sometimes that investment means paying more upfront to make sure it lasts longer.

Of course, after you choose a kids' cell phones you'll want to keep track of it constantly.  Most cell phone companies allow you to check usage online and this is good to do regularly so you know your child won't go over their minutes.  This can be a costly mistake that many families make.  So review the calling minutes every week or every few days and give your child a warning when they're approaching their limit!
